What is Lily DB?

Hi, I'm Lily. Big heart. Strong opinions.

Lily DB is a database client for macOS, written in Swift. One app for PostgreSQL, MySQL and MariaDB, SQLite, SQL Server, Redis, MongoDB, DynamoDB, Trino and ClickHouse. It is free for personal and commercial use.

It talks to each database directly, so there are no drivers, JVMs or helper services to install.

What it does

  • Connect with a form or a pasted URL, through SSH tunnels and TLS, with passwords in the Keychain. Tag connections by environment, make them read-only, group them, and sync them across your Macs.
  • Browse and edit tables with server-side sorting and filtering, staged edits saved in one transaction, foreign-key navigation and inspectors for JSON and images.
  • Query with autocomplete, snippets, :parameters, transactions, result tabs, charts, notebooks and dashboards.
  • Use AI through Claude Code, Codex or OpenCode on your Mac: understand an unfamiliar schema, ask questions in plain language, generate and fix SQL, write migrations, and investigate slow queries.
  • Stay safe with confirmations that count the rows a write will touch, production tags and read-only connections.
  • See what the database is doing with Trace, visual plans and Health Check.
  • Move data between any two engines, migrate a whole schema, and convert between SQL and MongoDB.

Each engine gets a screen that fits it: keys and types for Redis, documents and pipelines for MongoDB, key queries and PartiQL for DynamoDB. See Engines.
