iCloud sync

iCloud sync carries your saved connections to your other Macs. It is off until you turn it on.

Turning it on

  1. Make sure you are signed in to iCloud in System Settings.
  2. Open Settings › Workspace › iCloud sync.
  3. Turn on Sync my connections across my Macs.

Lily syncs right away, then on every launch and a few seconds after you add or remove a connection. Sync now runs it by hand, and the section shows when it last synced. Test iCloud connection checks that iCloud is reachable.

Do the same on each Mac.

What syncs

  • Connection details: name, engine, host, port, user, database, options, environment, color, read-only, and the SSH host, user and key path.
  • Groups.
  • Deletions of connections and groups.

Everything goes to your private iCloud database, which only your Apple account can read.

What never syncs

  • Passwords, secret keys and SSH passphrases. They stay in this Mac's Keychain. On another Mac, open the connection with Edit and enter the password once.
  • SSH key files (only their path syncs, so keep the key at the same path on each Mac).
  • History, saved queries, snippets, notebooks, dashboards, table favorites, drafts, AI analyses, Trace data and settings.

Good to know

  • A connection syncs when it is added. Edits made later stay on the Mac where you made them. To push an edit, delete the connection on the other Macs and let it sync again, or edit it on each Mac.
  • A connection you delete while sync is off is not deleted on the other Macs.

Turning it off

  • Turning off Sync my connections across my Macs stops syncing and leaves your copy in iCloud.
  • Turn off and remove my copy from iCloud stops syncing and deletes the copy.

Either way, the connections on each Mac stay where they are.
