Results, charts and export
Results appear below the editor in the read-only grid, so the filters, aggregates and inspectors work there too. The status bar shows the message from the database and how long the query took.
The row cap
A query keeps at most 50,000 rows by default. When a result is cut, the status bar says first N of M rows. Change the cap in Settings › Data & queries › Query result cap (1,000 to 500,000). With several result sets, the cap applies to all of them together.
Charts
Chart opens the current result as a chart: Bar, Line, Area, Scatter or Pie. Pick a Label column and a numeric Value column; Lily starts with the first column and the first numeric one. The chart uses the first 50 rows, after your filters and sort.
For charts you keep, use a notebook or a dashboard.
Export
The export menu saves exactly what the grid shows, filters and sort included.
| From | Formats |
|---|---|
| A query result | CSV, JSON, NDJSON, Markdown, Excel (.xlsx), SQL INSERT |
| A table tab, current page | CSV, JSON, Markdown, Excel |
| A table tab, entire table | CSV, JSON, SQL dump |
| Selected rows | CSV, JSON, Markdown, Excel, SQL INSERT |
Entire table and SQL dump stream the rows to disk in batches of 1,000, so a table with millions of rows goes out without filling memory. They use keyset paging when the table has a primary key, and OFFSET otherwise.
Excel files are real .xlsx workbooks that open in Excel and Numbers.
Copy
- ⌘ C: the selected rows as tab-separated values.
- Copy row as and Copy N rows as: TSV, CSV, JSON, Markdown.
- Copy N rows as INSERT: one
INSERTper row. Identifiers are double-quoted, so adjust them for MySQL.

Move to another engine… copies the result into a table on another connection: any SQL engine, MongoDB or DynamoDB. See Move data between engines.
